recommendations

Hello, everyone.

Before this year ends, I want you all to promise me something. I want you to promise that you will read this book.

This one. Right here.

I've never actually read anything else by Mazzucchelli, but I'm familiar enough with his usual body of work to tell you that this is VERY DIFFERENT. Stylistically. Everything is intentional, right down to the word balloons which are all different shapes with different handwriting for different characters. AND THAT RULES.

Buy me, it says. Buyyyy meeeee.

photos

Hey!! Back from a trip to Chicago (went with Mr. Krenz) and it produced some rather interesting pictures. Here are some I like:

Okay, well this one is not of Chicago. It is at a train stop in Winona. This college-looking guy was smoking a cigarette and looking totally bored and soo cool and looming over him is this McDonald's sign that tells us there is a McDonald's six blocks away. How could I not take a picture of this. I mean really.

And here are two of downtown Chicago that turned out rather nice.

update city

Now before you kids get all excited, these are not new drawings. But it is a new post! And that is kind of cool, right?

Anyhoo, here are two pages of an uncompleted three-pager that was never inked. Why am I sharing this if it's so unfinished? I don't know. Anyway, it's about Sylvia Plath and I apologize if it's hard to see, I yanked up the contrast like, a hundred percent in photoshop, but it's still kind of unreadable. Sooo...sorry?

The text comes from one of Plath's journal entries, I edited it so it would fit three pages and not fifty, which is what would have happened had I not edited.

And then, in cleaning out my MCAD studio, I found this drawing which I was a frame from an animation I didn't get done. (I was very productive this semester.)

I thought it was funny. I figured you guys would, too. THE END.

watercolor

Made this on my own, just for fun. Which is weird, because I feel like I haven't made anything for fun in a LONG time. But I guess I gotta make myself figure out what it is I like about art (or more specifically, making art) again.

So yeah, decided to do something in color. The last time I used watercolors was two years ago, and I think I was using them for like, the first time? Since elementary school? So I'm not particularly experienced, and sort of have fun playing around with them. I like that it's a very forgiving medium. (Also I like how the texture in her hair turned out. Not so sure about a lot of the color placement in the skin.)

The. End.

(easy) metaphors

You might be saying, "Now, Hannah, if you didn't waste your time drawing stupid cartoons and making blog posts, maybe you'd have the time to tackle your problems in a more constructive way." To which I would respond, "Well gee whiz, I never thought of it that way, ho boy, ho boy, I'm excited to do things a new way!!" There would be a little sarcasm.

do me a favor, god

Too bad that's my left hand.

On the plus side, I finally put all my Beatles' CD's on my computer. I thought they were too scratched to ever work again. Apparently there is life in them yet. So that's all I'll be listening to for the next few years of my life, thanks.

"That's Paul's grandfather."
